Turkey versus Italy is the game of the big opening of Euro 2020. These two teams will
face each other at the legendary Stadio Olimpico in Rome on June 11. This is a match
from Group A of the competition. Wales and Switzerland are the other two teams in this
group. Italy is the obvious favorite in Group A, but the other three teams are capable of
progressing as well.

Let’s start with Turkey here because they are the dark horse in this group.

At this moment, the Crescent-Stars are managed by one of the most legendary coaches
in the history of Turkish football – Senol Gunes. This is the same coach who led Turkey
to third place during the 2002 World Cup – the most significant football success in the
country’s history. For Gunes, this is a second stint as a head coach of the national team,
and he’s hungry for success again.

If you think Turkey does not have what to offer in terms of potential, we advise you to
think differently.

At this moment, Turkey is enjoying one of its most talented generations in the last
decade or two. Some of their players are key figures in their teams in the best European
leagues. Let’s talk about these players a little bit more.

Leicester City’s Caglar Soyuncu is arguably one of the best central defenders in the
English Premier League at the moment. Just 25-years old, Soyuncu is masterfully
commanding Leicester’s defense, and he’s one of the key reasons why the Foxes are
among the top teams in England. This season he triumphed with the FA Cup alongside
his teammate at the King Power Stadium Cengiz Under. Add Juventus’; Merih Demiral
alongside Caglar Soyuncu, and you’re getting a very solid center-back duo for ages to
come.

AC Milan’s Hakan Calhanoglu will be one of Turkey’s creative forces for the upcoming
Euro. The 27-years old midfielder is not just a set-piece master but also a player with a
solid vision for the game. His passes behind the opponent’s back will be necessary for
Turkey’s offensive game and how exactly they will distribute the ball to the forwards.

The 35-years old Burak Yilmaz is a striker everyone was talking about lately. The
reason for this is the fact that Yilmaz helped his team Lille to sensationally beat PSG for
the title in the French Ligue 1. Nobody expected such a performance from the Dogs, but
Yilmaz helped this with his 16 Ligue 1 goals for the season.

As usual, Italy is one of the major contenders for winning the competition. It’s quite
surprising, but so far, the Azzurri have won the European Cup just once in their history –
in 1968. They reached the final twice in the last two decades – in 2000 and 2012, but
both times they suffered defeats. Now it’s time for them to try again.

The Italians have enough reasons to feel as motivated as possible to make a solid
performance this summer. The four-time world champions didn’t qualify for the last
World Cup in Russia, and it really hurt the fans. The players and the manager Roberto
Mancini must find a way to redeem themselves now, although Mancini was not on board
when this disaster happened a few years ago.

Roberto Mancini is one of the reasons for Italy’s improvement since 2018. Champion of
Italy and England, Mancini is proving so far to be an excellent international manager as
well. He made the Italian team much more confident, and most of the time, he’s making
the right decisions regarding the players’ selection.

PSG’s Moise Kean was left out from the team for the Euro 2020. The young striker
resurrected his career in Paris and scored 17 goals in all competitions for PSG, but it
was not enough to convince Mancini. He tried him for the last time in the friendly against
San Marino (7-0), but in the end, Mancini chose to cut him out from the team.

Juventus’; Federico Chiesa should be one of Italy’s key players during the Euro. The
Bianconeri had a poor season in Serie A and Europe, but Chiesa was one of the
positive things that happened to Juve. The Old Lady loaned the 23-years old winger
from Fiorentina, and he proved to be one of the team’s best performers. He should be
important for the national team as well.

The Golden Boot winner Ciro Immobile is expected to be the player to lead Italy’s attack
at the Euro. Last season Immobile proved to be lethal once again, scoring 25 goals for
Lazio in all competitions. He’d need the help of players like Chiesa, Bernardeschi, and
Insigne in order to perform, though – every striker needs a good service.

PSG’s Marco Verratti is ready to prove why he’s the main man in the midfield area.
Verratti is one of the finest playmakers in the world right now, and he’s a player with a
beautiful way of playing football. Meanwhile, players like Inter’s Stefano Sensi and
Nicolo Barella are ready to step up and help Verratti in midfield. Sassuolo’s Manuel
Locatelli and Chelsea’s Jorginho are among the options for Mancini as well. Just a few
days ago, Jorginho became a Champions League winner with his club Chelsea.

That’s our free soccer predictions for today for the Euro 2020 opener between Turkey
and Italy at the Olimpico in the Italian capital. We won’t surprise anyone by saying that
Italy is the favorite to win here and take first place in the group in general, but keep tabs
on Turkey – they are arriving at the Euro with a talented squad and ready to impress.
