Morocco surprised a lot of people as they won their group and finished ahead of European
powerhouses Croatia and Belgium. We knew that they are good, but most of the pundits
expected to see them going home after the group stage. They proved them wrong, though.
The Atlas Lions finished unbeaten in their group – two wins and one draw. They scored
four goals and conceded just one – a pretty good compliment for their defense.
In their last game in the group stage Morocco faced Canada and enjoyed a 2-1 win in
Doha. Walid Regragui’s boys scored their both goals in the first half. Hakim Ziyech opened
the score while Youssef En-Nesyri doubled the score. It was another solid game for
Morocco at the FIFA World Cup in Qatar.
Spain lost their last game in the group against Japan, but they still managed to progress
with 4 points won. Some people now have doubts that La Roja didn’t win on purpose
against the Blue Samurai because their wish to avoid Brazil in the 1/4-finals. Is this true?
Well, only they know that.
The truth is Spain crumbled against Japan in the second half. Alvaro Morata opened the
score for La Roja, but in the beginning of the second half Luis Enrique’s team conceded
two quick goals. Spain’s manager picked Ferran Torres, Marco Asensio and Ansu Fati
from the bench in the second half, but it didn’t lead to the change he desired.
